Computer Game System Requirements
from: Video Gamers OasisWhen playing a video game, the peripherals or devices used must meet the requirements set by the game. These requirements include the capacity of your device, such as a console or computer, to perform the tasks and operate the game as set out by the programmer.
Compatibility is also a major computer requirement. The video resolution of a program may differ according to the monitor a gamer uses. With the requirements to operate the game set out, the user will know which monitor can display the video properly.
Why is a minimum requirement set for a game? Since all video games are created with the highest technology available, when they're no fully compatible with a hardware device, the operation of such game is going to be greatly affected. Minimum recommended requirements are not for the game producer, or console designer, but for the consumer, so the gamer knows what they will need to get the best possible output from a their game system.
These requirements are computer specifications that a playing device needs to possess. Here are some specific specifications:
* Processor Speed: the speed of a processor is an extremely crucial system requirements a video game will require your computer to possess. Speed will determine how fast your computer will respond to in order to execute an action.
Since games are all executable programs, the speed of a processor is very important. Processor speed is measured in units of megahertz (MHz) and gigahertz (GHz). Megahertz are smaller than gigahertz, with one gigahertz equal to a thousand megahertz. High-speed processors are able to operate any game equal to its speed and lower but slower processors can't properly operate games with higher speed requirements.
* Random Access Memory (RAM): is the internal memory of the computer. This is the memory that stores the data immediately needed by the processor. Most computers have a preset amount of RAM equivalent to 64MB which is the amount of RAM most games require. However, there are game programs that require higher RAM such as 126MB. This isn't usually a problem because RAM can be upgraded to a higher memory capacity.
* VRAM: is Video Read Access Memory. The ability of your computer to display high resolution games depends on the VRAM, which works with the video card. Video cards are like processors, however, it's main concern is to feedi the monitor with visual commands. VRAM is temporary memory that saves and stores the graphical information that will be later fed to the video card and the processor.
* Disc Capacity: is the capacity of the hard drive to store files and information. Disc space is also measured in units of megabytes (MB) just like the VRAM and the RAM. The higher the disc capacity, the more games you can store and play on your computer. As with RAM, disc memory capacity is upgradable.
* CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive speed: Not all the games installed on your PC require a disc, however, most game companies upgrade their computer game programs using discs which is then added to the game specs by reinstalling it in the computer.
The faster the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive is, the faster it will be able to do the installation. You'll also use your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive to ensure copyright protection. As will other requirements, a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM's speed can perform what is required to play a game program that has an equal speed requirement or slower.
